DISCUSSION:

  • Engine block #2 is not nearly as nice as #1.  It clearly has been sitting with water in the cooling channels for quite some time due to the rust build up.  But, according to my Ford Flathead father...  It's still in great shape in comparison to what he's used to finding.  In addition, I have a feeling the BPing of the block will show that it needs some serious re-machining, especially if cylinder head #2 is any indicator (more later on this).
  • Also, this block is slightly inferior from #1.  It has the break through in the casting below the main cap bearing.  For a normal to hopped up street machine, this supposedly is not an issue.  But for a gnarly street machine to a racer, you don't want to chance it.
  • Besides the above issues, engine block #2 has been overbored.  Hmm, I forget by how much.
  • Well, this block will eventually get the same treatment that #1 got... once it gets a bit warmer.  Yeah, I know.  50 degrees is nothing, but for a Californian... that's darn cold to be working outside.  HA HA HA.
