The Crash
Well it happened on August 8, 2003.
I had just gotten done with a ton of work on my Bugeye the
night before. I decided to drive my car into work to
work the brakes in. On the way home, I was in downtown
Los Gatos, CA waiting for a light to turn. The woman in
front of me with her Cadillac Escalade decided, after being
stationary for 15 seconds or so, to park -- that is parallel
park through my Bugeye. Before I knew it, she had
reversed right into my right fender. Not only did her
vision, logic and common sense fail her, but her wonderful
backup sensing system was broken. Needless to say, I
could not believe my eyes. Well, long story
short... Her insurance company peeled out $5200 to fix
my Bugeye. Even then, she's not quite the same.
The lines aren't quite right on the bonnet. After the
headache of getting quotes and finding a place to fix her,
there was one bit of good news. The passenger door now
closes as well as the drivers door. Just a slight push
and they both latch. My Bugeye was lucky. Only the
bonnet was damaged. All the other damage was
superficial. Lucky... this time. Well, here are
some photos for the curious:
